JoyFund is a community-powered financing platform for maternal and newborn health. In a few simple steps you can turn a celebration - a birthday, wedding, graduation or promotion - into organised support that helps a vulnerable mother and newborn access essential care. There is no pressure to reach a target: every contribution makes a difference.

Follow the prompts to set up your JoyFund

Click the ‘Start a JoyFund’ button and answer a few questions to get started. Add a photo for your JoyFund and tell your story.

Choose the celebration you’re honouring — a birthday, wedding, graduation, promotion, memorial, or other
Select the milestone you want to turn into support
Add a cover photo that represents your celebration

Tell your story

In your JoyFund description, share the reason you are giving in 1-3 paragraphs, and how the support you mobilise will help a mother and newborn stay connected to essential care.

Write a story that connects with your community
Explain how the support will be used
Be specific about the need you’re addressing

If you already know someone who needs support, check the box to let us know — you’ll be asked for their name, phone number, and a brief description of their situation. This information stays private and is only used by our social workers to follow up and verify the need.

Set your goal

Choose a giving target and pick an end date for your JoyFund. We’ll suggest a goal amount based on what similar JoyFunds raise, but you can always choose a different amount.

Publish with a starting contribution

To publish your JoyFund, you’ll contribute at least 10% of your goal yourself. This isn’t a fee — it’s what gets your JoyFund listed on the JoyFund landing page and Explore section.

This initial contribution shows others you’re committed and helps build trust with your community.

Share your JoyFund

Once published, share your JoyFund with friends, family, and your community — on social media, WhatsApp, email, or wherever your circle gathers.

Where the money goes

From there, supporters can give securely using MTN Mobile Money or Orange Money. Needs are verified through participating health facilities, and where care is supported, funds are paid directly to providers — so contributions always go where they’re needed.
