JoyFund collects only the information necessary to provide our crowdfunding and healthcare facilitation services. We collect the following categories of personal data:
1. Information We Collect
- Account InformationWhen you create an account, we collect your full name, email address, and phone number. These are required to register, process donations, and communicate with you about your contributions and campaign activity.
- Beneficiary InformationFor beneficiaries receiving care, we collect name, location, socioeconomic status (for vulnerability verification purposes), and a Digital Health ID. This data is handled with heightened confidentiality.
- Partner Personnel InformationProfessional details for social workers and hospital staff, collected to manage role-based access and authenticate authorised personnel on the platform.
- Transaction DataMobile money transaction identifiers, donation amounts, dates, and care voucher redemption history. This data is used to maintain our public financial transparency trail.
2. How We Use Your Data
We use the personal data we collect exclusively for the following purposes:
- 1To create, maintain, and secure your user account on JoyFund.
- 2To process donations via mobile money (MTN MoMo, Orange Money) and send you confirmation receipts.
- 3To issue care vouchers via SMS to verified beneficiaries and facilitate their redemption at partner hospitals.
- 4To settle healthcare claims with partner hospitals and maintain accurate financial records.
- 5To provide donors with real-time updates on the impact of their contributions and to maintain public transparency dashboards.
3. Data Sharing & Your Privacy Rights
JoyFund respects your privacy. We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise monetise your personal information. We share data only with entities directly involved in the care delivery cycle:
- Partner HospitalsReceive the beneficiary's name and voucher code to validate eligibility and provide the required medical service. No donor personal information is shared with hospitals.
- Social WorkersAccess beneficiary profiles to verify eligibility, manage enrollment, and coordinate care. All social workers are bound by confidentiality agreements.
- Payment ProcessorsMTN Mobile Money and Orange Money process donation transactions securely. We do not store or have access to your mobile money PIN.
4. Data Security
We implement robust technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data. All data transmitted through our platform is encrypted using industry-standard SSL/TLS protocols. Access to beneficiary information is restricted to authorised personnel only, under strict confidentiality obligations. Our anti-fraud PIN system adds an additional layer of security to ensure vouchers are used exclusively by their intended recipients.
5. Your Rights & Legal Compliance
JoyFund is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with applicable data protection laws. We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for users in the European Economic Area, and with applicable U.S. data protection laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) where relevant. Under these frameworks, you have the following rights:
- The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
- The right to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- The right to request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention obligations.
- The right to data portability — to receive a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- The right to withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.
- The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority if you believe your data protection rights have been violated.
